I’m a big fan of my LG G3, my wife got the Samsung Galaxy S5 the same day as my LG. She’s had a ton more issues with hers than I have with mine. We had Galaxy S3’s before that, they were pretty solid, though outdated now I would guess.

I’ve heard good things about the OnePlus phones, but you need to purchase through an invite-only system. One of my colleagues has one and it seemed like a very nice phone at a reasonable price. My current phone is starting to develop some issues and I'm leaning towards this one for my next phone.
I'm basically satisfied with my Nexus 5 (made by LG) but I think the newer Google phones (I think it's Nexus 5+ and Nexus 6) are made by Huawei so I don't know how they are. However, having the newest Android OS has worked very well for me during the 2 years of ownership.

I should have stipulated, I despise Apple as a company and all of it’s products.

I’ve had Samsung tablets..I wasn’t impressed. I can’t see their phones being much better. Are they also loaded with Samsung bloatware?

I like to keep it cheap because I’m sort of rough on phones. Honestly, that wondows phone was pretty good for business purposes. Especially for the price....

sure of course they are.
I don’t feel like my G3 has much bloatware from LG. I mean some just comes straight from Google but most is straight from Verizon.
I know the G2 was a solid phone as well if you want cheaper.
BTW the G3 takes the best pictures of any phone I’ve ever had.

You know, as far as cheap phones go, that window’s phone took great pictures. That’s mostly why I’m pissed at myself for losing it. The display was 1st class.

Maybe you’ve answered your own question.
Maybe just stick with windows phone and buy another just like it if you liked it so much.

Hmmm, for a cheap phone, you’re probably not getting anything top of the line. I’ve had good success with the Google (LG) Nexus phones. My Nexus 4 worked great. Only reason I got rid of it was because I wanted a bigger screen so I went to the Nexus 5. I had the Nexus 5 for about two years and then cracked it dropping it just right on the corner and blowing up the screen. Now I have a Nexus 5+. All of the Nexus phones seem to have good support from Google, so you get the latest OS updates in fairly short order. That being said, I think I paid $300 for my Nexus 5+, which really isn't that cheap. Maybe you could find one second hand for less?

Get the latest Samsung Galaxy. They are always ahead of the competition in speed and power. I have an S6 and when that came out, their 8-core processor blew Apple’s out of the water. Their AMOLED display is the best you will ever get too.

Seconding the Nexus phones. I have a new 5X and it’s great. Having regular OS updates more than makes up for the occasional bug that comes along with said state-of-the-art OS. Hardware wise, it looks and feels a bit cheap, and the stock Android camera app is atrocious, but its a great all around phone and it’s not particularly expensive.

Wife and I both have Moto G’s. They’re pretty cheap retail if your carrier has a BYOD plan.

I will say this for it, as far as a business phone goes, it’s probably the best phone out there. Everything from Microsoft is optimized for it. Office ran flawlessly, the aps from microsoft ran like a charm. And it wasn’t like there weren’t outside aps, it’s just that the non-game ones they did have were sort of buggy.

My industry works entirely on Macs. Which are stupid machines.
I refuse to conform.

I’m in Automotive Advertising.
I’ve been a designer before, but I don’t do it much anymore. I still play around in P-Shop a lot though. I’ve done everything to client management (account executive) to copywriting to graphic design to web/flash development.

They’re stupid. I have a rather high powered iMac I work on and it bogs down all the time.
For a fraction of the cost I could have had a powerful PC tower with a nice screen that would run more reliably/faster.
I’ve done everything on PC’s too. Flash, InDesign, Photoshop, it all works fine I don’t understand people’s obsession for an overpriced mac to do the same job.

I work in a studio and we do a lot of sound production, so most of the sound files are created and managed through Pro-tools, which is pretty much Mac only for some damn reason. I’m with you though, i can’t understand the cult of Mac. I only use them when there is no other choice.

If you want unlocked and un-bloated Android, your best bets right now are Nexus, Motorola, Alcatel and ZTE (sort of). Huawei is getting some shine from making the Nexus 6P but their own branded phones have a terrible skin over Android. Asus makes some interesting hardware but are loaded down with bloat. I’m not quite sold on OnePlus.
I have a Moto X Pure 2015 and my gf has a ZTE ZMAX 2. We’re both very happy with our phones. Even though hers is very much a budget phone, it’s actually really quite decent. She’s not very demanding of her phone and it totally meets her needs. Especially since it was only $120 over Black Friday.
I’m slightly wary of ZTE’s more expensive Axon models. Some reviews have been very positive, others have experienced weird small-but-annoying software tweaks and random glitches. So there’s that.
Here are the phones I recommend, in order of price, and keeping in mind that the ZTE Axons maybe have some potential question marks.
Nexus 6P - $499
Snapdragon 810
3 GB RAM
32 GB ROM, no microSD (64 GB - $549, 128 GB - $649)
Fingerprint reader
Android 6.0
5.7” 2560x1440 AMOLED
Moto X Pure 2015 - $399
Snapdragon 808
3 GB RAM
16 GB ROM + microSD (32 GB - $449, 64 GB - $499)
Android 6.0
5.7” 2560x1440 IPS LCD
ZTE Axon Pro - $399
Snapdragon 810
4 GB RAM
32 GB ROM, no microSD (64 GB - $449)
Android 5.1
5.5” 2560x1440 CGS LCD
Nexus 5X - $379
Snapdragon 808
2 GB RAM
16 GB ROM, no microSD (32 GB - $429)
Fingerprint reader
Android 6.0
5.2” 1920x1080 IPS LCD
ZTE Axon - $329
Snapdragon 801
2 GB RAM
32 GB ROM, no microSD
Android 5.1
5.5” 1920x1080 IPS LCD
Moto X Pure 2014 - $299
Snapdragon 801
2 GB RAM
16 GB ROM, no microSD (32 GB is a free upgrade til 1/12, $64 GB - $399)
Android 5.1 (will get 6.0 update)
5.2” 1920x1080 AMOLED
Alcatel Idol 3 5.5 - $249
Snapdragon 615
2 GB RAM
16 GB ROM + microSD
Android 5.1
5.5” 1920x1080 IPS LCD
Moto G 2015 16 GB - $219
Snapdragon 410
2 GB RAM
16 GB ROM + microSD
Android 5.1 (will get 6.0 update)
5.0” 1280x720 IPS LCD
No NFC or 5 GHz wifi
ZTE ZMAX 2 - $179
Snapdragon 410
2 GB RAM
16 GB ROM + microSD
Android 5.1
5.5” 1280x720 TFT LCD
No NFC or 5 GHz wifi
You could go lower than this but the specs become more of a compromise. Like the Alcatel Idol 3 4.7” and Moto G 2015 8 GB only have 1.5 GB or 1 GB of RAM, respectively, and that’s just not enough IMHO.

I recommend the LG G3. I love mine. There’s a G4 and a G5 coming, but the G3 was so well specced that they’re both incremental improvements in terms of hardware. And the G3 is getting the latest Android (Marshmallow) very soon. AND they’re cheap!
To be clear, it’s not the absolute latest. But it’s less than half the price, and it’s still very much a modern phone.
